The appellation Côte-Rôtie is in all 230 Ha (575 acres). As long as 2000 years ago, latin authors Martial, Pline, Columelle and Greek writer Plutarque celebrated the Côte-Rôtie under the name “Wine from Vienne”


The vineyard of domain Duclaux

The vineyards of domain Duclaux are entirely situated in Tupin et Semons and in the southern sector of Côte-Rôtie.

Name-vineyard : Maison Rouge, Coteau de Tupin, Tupin, le Collet, Coteau de Bassenon, Pimotin. Map of Côte-Rôtie

Surface : 5.5 Hectares (14 acres).

Soil : Gneiss. The soil is a clear color typicaly of the southern sector of the appellation.

Exposition : vineyard are planted on the hills on the right bank of the Rhone with exposition south and south-east.

Climate : semi-continental.

Density per Ha : the density of the vines is very strong ; 1 vine stock per m².

Trellising : every vine stock are attached to wood stake that measure over 1.80 meters.

Grape-varieties : 95 % syrah (red) and 5 % viognier (white). All new plantation are carried out using “selection massale”.

Average age of the vine : 25 to 30 years.

Type of pruning : 80 % in “goblet pruning” and 20 % in “single cane pruning”.

Rootstock : the majority in 3309 C (syrah) and in 110 R (viognier).

Yields : between 35 and 40 hl per hectare. Green harvesting since 1993.

Protection of environment : we are conscious of the richness of soil and the terroir of Côte-Rôtie. After all, we protect this by using no insecticide or acaricide.
